As the cheer squad rallied the attention of the students, and the smarter clubs bribed children with candy, Harriton’s Ram Day went underway. This year, unlike the past years, Ram Day was held in the JSL, not on the tombs of the old HHS. Students from all four grades crowded around the tables to find clubs that suited the tastes of both their interests and palates. Athletes, mathematicians, engineers, musicians, and all kinds of prodigies found activities to meet their needs. Even those without specialties or talents chose to join clubs in an effort to gain familiarity with the new school and to get involved.
Ram Day gave students a small taste of what Harriton has to offer outside of the classroom. However, some students, such as Rachael Grossman, a Harriton freshman, thought the day’s success was filtered by its lack of organization and its disarray. “I thought the stands for the different clubs were poorly organized which made it hard for many people to find what they were looking for,” she explains. Maybe next year Harriton could provide a list of clubs to sign up for to supplement the many booths for convenience.
The best part of Ram Day was being with friends. Like Ram Day, clubs let students see the friends they miss in class while still in school. Additionally, getting involved in these activities allows kids not only to see old friends, but also to make new ones, often in different grades and social groups.
Ram Day gave students great opportunities this year. With a myriad of clubs, there really was a place where everyone could fit in. Despite the slight disorganization, this activity during the lunch set in mid-September opened new doors to students and served as a great way for students to become passionate about something while having fun and working hard.
