Mad Men: Season Seven

Multicolored dresses, unlit cigarettes, opened bottles of whisky — it is the end of an era. After six brilliant years of pure and unadulterated television wonder, the hit television drama Mad Men is coming to a close on April 13th. The program, taking place within the drama of a sixties advertising firm, Sterling Cooper & Partners, will begin its end with the premiere of the seventh season, entitled “The Beginning.”  It will most likely be picking up where the sixth season ended. WARNING: Spoilers below.

After the fight between him and his beautiful, youthful (yet not so naïve) wife, and being forced to leave the company, Don Draper (Jon Hamm) is starting to reveal more of himself to his children. Little by little, he is becoming more comfortable with the man he once was — Dick Whitman. However, this may be affecting his business and his love life. The next season will explore the consequences of his opening up.

Other subjects include the strong and independent Peggy Olson (Elizabeth Moss), who took over Don’s position during his leave, and whether or not she has a romance with one of the other partners. Her future, whether it be in New York City or the Golden State, will be revealed. Other storylines include the glamorous, yet jaded, Joan Harris (Christina Hendricks) and the smooth Roger Sterling (John Slattery), whose romance has been as bumpy as many of the other plots. Their son, Kevin, is (unbeknownst to anyone) Roger’s son, not Joan’s ex, Greg.

As the course of the show continues, so will the tragedies, calamities, disasters, and miracles, as always with this gorgeously melodramatic masterpiece.  Hopefully it will end with a bang.
