Harriton Theater Company is performing its third and final show of the school year, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and it’s going to be amazing! You can’t miss it! Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice wrote Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat based off of the story of Joseph and “coat of many colors” from the Hebrew Bible’s Book of Genesis.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat starts out with a narrator telling the story of a dreamer named Joseph, who is one of twelve sons, and who also happens to be their father’s favorite child. The eleven brothers are extremely jealous that their father favors Joseph, and, thus, hate Joseph’s multi-colored coat, which is a symbol of their father’s preference. To make matters worse, Joseph has a dream, prophesying that, one day, he will rule his brothers. This divination enrages the eleven brothers, so they try to prevent the dream from coming true. How? Well, by killing Joseph, of course!
What happens next? Does Joseph die? Will the dream come true? If you really want to know, come see HTC’s production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on March 17 through March 20.
