You may or may not have noticed, but daylight savings has come and gone. Turning our clocks back an hour is an indication that our year is progressing and fall sports has come to a close. As with the end of every sport, at the end of the season Harriton’s teams celebrate senior night to honor those who dedicated their high school experience to the sport they loved.
Friday night marked senior night for the football team, cheerleaders, and the pep band, which was the final senior night for fall sports. Before the start of the game, seniors Dan Queroli, Dan Cooper, Nick Kozinski, Nick Maguire, AJ Jenson, Manos Attaliadis, Devlin Barry, Blake Bergman, Vince Cooke, Dylan Enslin and Max Fagan, were recognized along with their families. Each group came onto the field and the crowd applauded as their names were announced. Colin Powell remarked, “The senior night ceremony was really great and well organized and I think all the seniors enjoyed having their parents around with them on the field for the opening of the game.” Although it was an emotional night for all the seniors, Dan Queroli was disappointed about the outcome, he said “Senior night was great; it was tough, though, since we lost 56-8. It would have been a better senior night if we had won; we just played a good team and couldn’t capitalize when we needed to. But overall it wasn’t bad, it would have been better though if we capitalized and made the score closer than it really was.”
A few weeks ago on October 15th, the seniors of the girl’s field hockey team were recognized. Alexis Bralow, Marissa DeGuardia, Kala Dalahan, Amy Green, Jen Margulies, Madisun Morgan were the senior athletes at the game. Alexis Bralow talked about her experience, “Senior Night was amazing; the words on the signs all over the stadium were so inspiring. It was a great night and a great game.” Jen Margulies also said, “Senior night was an absolutely amazing experience for me. After being on the team for four years and seeing all the seniors before me have their own senior nights it was really exciting for it to finally be my turn. Field hockey has a lot of really fun traditions, like caravaning before the game and being presented with gifts by the juniors, which just made the night even better. But, it was definitely bittersweet for me. Reality began to set in that field hockey was almost over and I wouldn’t be on the team again, which was very sad.”
The next week, on a chilly October night, the girl’s soccer team honored their seniors: Maddy Liss, Alexa Hoffman, Kasey Jakobowski, Meredith Weber, Suzie Sergott, Olivia Arronson, Jenna Glat and Monika Maj. Maddy Liss said this about her senior night, “Ever since I was a freshman I was really excited for it to finally be my senior night. I thought it would be really cool and exciting to be honored and have your family with you, and your friends and teammates talking about you. Senior night for me was a really great and memorable night, but also really hard. It was my last game as part of Harriton’s soccer team, which was upsetting to me. I’ve grown to love my team and coaches, so it was hard knowing that it was the end. However, it was really fun, and I think it was a great way to end the season.”
So now as the leaves fall from the trees, the temperature drops, and winter sports begin, the seniors of fall sports have ended their high school careers. Thanks to the efforts of their fellow teammates, parents, and coaches, they exited in a night of revelry they will surely never forget.
