Getting to Know Hilary Lemonick and Jess Herman, RAMLAX at its Finest

Hilary and Jess are best friends. If you do not already know them, here is a little bit about our favorite RAMLAXING duo. Not only are they the backbone of the Harriton Girls Lacrosse Defensive squad, but they are leaders on and off the field as well. Funny, smart and dedicated, these seniors embody the best Harriton has to offer. We will certainly miss them next year!

Having dedicated four years of their high school careers to playing lacrosse, we asked them what it felt like to know that this would be their last year.

“Knowing that this is my last year as a part of RAMLAX is bittersweet for me. I am very excited to move on to the next phase of my life and meet new people and discover new things about myself, but I will definitely miss the team and all the amazing moments that we shared and accomplished as a team,” Hilary told us.

Jess says that, “It is very sad that it is my last year of RAMLAX. Besides being teammates, we are all such good friends outside of lacrosse and that is what makes it so much more fun and meaningful.”

We wanted to know what has made the girls lacrosse team so successful in the past few years. A state championship is no casual feat. What makes this group of athletes worthy of the RAMLAX title?

According to Hilary, “I believe that our team has been so successful because of hard work, Coach Dick, and the fact that we started at the bottom. A few years before I entered high school, the Harriton girls lacrosse program had a loosing record in the central league and was many times the lower seed in the district tournament. The relentlessness, focus, coaching, hard work and talents of the players and coaches over the past 7 years have lead this team to become state champions as well as a national threat. When you start at the bottom there is only room to go up and improve and that is what we have done.”

The team has certainly built themselves up, entirely worthy of the state title. When asked what they would miss most about Harriton, it was no surprise that both Jess and Hilary said RAMLAX.

Hilary went on to add that, “I will also miss all the many diverse teachers that I have had the pleasure of working with. Each teacher is completely different and each one has taught me a different lesson that has allowed me to grow as a student, athlete and person.”

Next fall Jess and Hilary will be off to their dream schools, Jess to Penn State and Hilary to join the Bears of the Cornell Women’s Lacrosse Team. Jess mentioned that she could not find one flaw or disappointment in Penn State. After her unofficial visit during the fall of her junior year Hilary knew Cornell was the place for her.

In her very own words, “I don’t care what it takes, I want to go to Cornell!” All we can hope is that you guys come back and visit even if college is much more exciting!

The Harriton Banner had the exciting opportunity of interviewing these best friends and lacrosse superstars.

Harriton Banner: If you took a gap year where would you go?

Hilary: If I were to take a gap year, I would probably travel throughout Europe, more specifically Italy. I took a family trip to Italy and completely fell in love with the fashion, culture, language, scenery, and of course the food!

Jess: If I took a gap year, I would probably go to Israel.

HB: Hilary, we hear you are a “fasionista.” What is your go-to article of clothing?

Hilary: My go to piece of clothing is definitely my cropped leather jacket. It has a black leather chest and then white sleeves with a silver zipper. It matches anything and everything and anytime I need to complete a cute outfit, whether it is jeans and a shirt, a skirt or a dress I always grab this jacket and throw it on.

HB: If you could come up with a new Lays Chips flavor, what would it be?

Hilary: If I could come up with a new Lays Chip flavor, it would be pesto garlic potato chips.

Jess: Nothing because original baked lays are my favorite junk food.

HB: Favorite season: Fall, Spring, Summer, or Winter?

Hilary: My favorite season is late winter early spring. Perfect weather for shorts and a sweatshirt!

Jess: Fall because I get to watch the eagles 🙂

HB: Cats or Dogs…..or other?

Hilary: I am not a big pet person but I prefer dogs over cats.

Jess: Dogs.

So there you have it! It is true that we have been dying to know just a little bit more about our favorite RAMLAXERS. A cult? Yes. State Champions? Yes. The best sports team at Harriton? Arguably. RAMLAX will lose two of its finest next year, but as Jess and Hilary embark on their lives after high school we wish them luck. We highly doubt that they will have any troubles given that they are pretty much the coolest people out there. So make sure to keep an eye out for these two on the field and off of it!
